Bona Vacantia

If a deceased person left no will and or no traceable next of kin the treasury solicitor will claim the estate as Bona Vacantia.  Bona Vacantia literally translates as Vacant Goods.  Once an estate is declared Bona Vacantia the details are published on a governemnt website for anyone to use in the hope that somebody may be able to track down the next of kin.

Heir hunters typically search the Bona Vacantia website in the hope that they must be able to establish who would be entitled to inherit the estate.
