Google has released a new feature which permits your nominated beneficiary to access and take ownership of all your relevant documents, emails, photos and videos after a specified period of inactivity on your Google account – namely three, six or twelve months.
Similar to the Facebook memorial page functionality, Google Inactive Account recognises an individual’s “digital assets”. Oddly, it will send you an email just before it hands over your account, to ensure that you have indeed passed on.
Alternatively, should you wish to have your online activity kept private forever, you can instead choose to have all your data deleted at the end of your specified period of inactivity.
The new account settings for Google Inactive Account can be found on your usual Google settings page and can be modified for each aspect of the Google service.
