When you apply for probate, inevitably, there's plenty of paperwork including various forms you must fill out; here is a list of the most commonly used probate forms, which explains what they are for.  Or, you may wish to find out more about out low cost, fixed fee probate, call us free on 0800 612 6105 for help and advice.

Probate Form PA1 - The Probate Application form - use when applying for probate if the deceased lived in England or Wales or resided abroad with assets in England and Wales.  This is available to download from the website of HM Courts & Tribunals Service who administers the system of probate.

Probate Form PA2 - This is a guide to obtain probate for people acting without a solicitor.  Alternatively, we've put together a comprehensive package for those applying for DIY probate, everything you'll need is contained within the download, including all probate forms.

Probate Form PA3 - This is a leaflet detailing the fees you will have to pay as part of the probate process in England and Wales.  If the net estate value is under £5,000, there is no fee.  In all cases where the net estate value is over £5,000, a fee of £105 is applicable.

Probate Form PA4 - In order to obtain probate, you'll need to attend an interview to confirm the information submitted in your probate forms.  At the interview all the personal representatives who have applied for a grant of representation will need to swear an oath. PA4 contains directory of Probate Registries and Interview Venues to help you choose which location to use in England and Wales. You'll receive an appointment for an interview within about 10 days of sending in your probate forms.

Probate Form PA25 - Is completed when power is reserved to another executor.  An Executor appointed in a Will may decide to 'reserve their powers to act' until the future. It will mean that another Executor is to act solely or with other Executors instead. It's often used where a particular Executor resides abroad, lives far away from the home of the deceased or is unable to act due to other commitments.

Probate Forms IHT205 - Return of Estate Information, informs HMRC whether or not Inheritance Tax is owed.  You'll use IHT205 as part of the probate process if the deceased's estate is an 'excepted estate' and the person died on or after 1 September 2006 as a permanent resident of England, Wales or Northern Ireland.  An excepted estate is where the total value of the estate is less than the current threshold for inheritance tax.  If it isn't, you must submit a full Inheritance Tax account instead, see IHT400.
