Applying for Probate
If you've been named as an executor or been appointed administrator of an estate, you'll need to apply for probate if assets total more than £5000. An application is made to the HM Courts & Tribunals Service at your local probate office to obtain a Grant of Representation. This document will be required by financial institutions of the deceased to enable representative's access to assets to fulfil their duties. Once the grant has been issued, the registries role is complete. It will then be up to executors to administer the estate and fulfil wishes of the deceased.
IWC can make the application and administer the estate on your behalf, for a low cost fixed fee. Simply call our free phone number 0800 612 6105 and our advisors will be happy to help.
Probate Disputes
Many individuals contact the registry for information about whether probate has been granted and who is has been granted to, or to obtain a copy of the will of a deceased person. These are normally concerned beneficiaries and heirs or relatives who wish to make a claim against the estate. Where there is a dispute, a caveat can be entered in to prevent probate being granted until issues are resolved.
