As the largest of 3 in Wales, Cardiff probate registry is the principle office.  If you need to contact them, you can do so by using the details listed below.  Her Majesty's Courts & Tribunals Service staff can help you with your application for probate; which forms to fill out, what documents to include and details about your interview.

The probate registry Cardiff is open to the public from Monday to Friday between 09:30 and 16:00.

Although it is open to the general public, it is recommended that you call with details of your enquiry before attending.  This will save you a wasted journey in the event that staff cannot assist you.  Staff are extremely busy and appointments will be required.  As a court building, there are strict security measures in place and you'll be expected to respect these, you'll more than likely have to produce photographic identification.

The registry staff are not qualified to give you any legal advice, they may be able to point you in the right direction but in relation to the following, it is recommended that you consult a professional:

• Intestacy and Successional law
• Inheritance tax
• Entering in a caveat/what to do if there is a caveat in place
• Contentious probate
• Contesting a will
• Altering a will or intestacy

The registry cannot help you with estate administration once the grant has been issued.  If you require advice about your duties as an executor, or encounter problems with obtaining access to assets, shares, trusts and property, you should seek legal advice.
