History of Gravesend
The town of Gravesend is recorded in the Domesday book as Gravesham. Extensive Roman remains have been found at nearby Springhead. Gravesend lies just north of the Roman road known as Watling Street which stretches from
Dover, through
Bexley to London.
On the 28th June 2010 Gravesend actually recorded the highest temparature of the country reaching a whopping 30.9%C which was in fact hotter than Bermuda on the same day. This coming shortly after 2003 when Gravesend was also the hottest recorded place in the country however this was short lived as the local town of
Faversham slightly pipped Gravesend.
