York probate registry is part of the probate service administrated by HM Courts and Tribunals. Their main role is to manage and oversee applications made by executors and administrators for a Grant of Representation. This document allows them to legally act as personal representative of the deceased and carry out their obligations to manage the estate.
Probate documents are public records, overseen and managed by the registry. If you are concerned about the will, executors or beneficiaries of a deceased relative, it is possible to obtain copies of all probate documents. You may wish to find out if probate has been granted and who is acting as representative. If no application has been made you can enter in a standing search so you'll be notified when it is eventually submitted.
The registry cannot help with the following:
Probate Office York
Piccadilly House
55 Piccadilly
York
North Yorkshire

Tel:0113 389 6133
LeedsDPRenquiries@hmcts.gsi.gov.uk
(Currently probate enquiries are being redirected to Yorkshire's District Registry)
Note - The office is open to the public by appointment only.
If you have not yet applied, you may wish to consider appointing a professional. In cases where there is no valid will and when inheritance tax is due, the process can become extremely complicated, lengthy and time consuming. This is not ideal, especially when you also have to handle the emotional impact of losing someone close.
IWC offer a fixed fee service to handle all executor/administrator duties and tasks on your behalf. Your case will be managed by a full STEP member or law degree certified practitioner and we'll be on hand to offer you expert advice, when you need it most.
